Dr. Seuss Days

Daniel's preschool is having Dr. Seuss days last week and this coming week. Each day had its own theme. Day One was Wacky Day, and everyone dressed a little wacky. Daniel work black jeans with a pair of shorts on top, baseball socks, a long-sleeved shirt with a short-sleeved shirt that lights up (he was supposed to put it on top of the long-sleeved shirt but decided to put it on underneath when he got himself dressed).

Day Two was Crazy Hat Dat. Daniel wore two cowboy hats stacked on top with one of his daddy's baseball caps stacked on top of the cowboy hats.

Day Three was What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up. Daniel decided to dress up like his daddy, an electrician. He wore one of Joshua's company shirts, a tool belt, a hard hat, and carried his toolbox to school. It was too cute!

This week they'll have Green Eggs & Ham Day and Crazy Socks Day. Daniel has a pair of soccer socks that go up past his knees, so I'll let him wear those on Crazy Socks Day. I can't wait to see how he reacts to green eggs & ham!!

Make a Wish!

I had cooked a whole chicken a few weeks ago and left the wishbone on the windowsill to dry out. A few days ago we decided it was time to make a wish and break the wishbone. We let the kids grab each end...

...break it...

...and it's a tie!!! Both pieces were the same length! I've never seen a wishbone break quite like this one. I guess both the kids' wishes will come true. :) We didn't ask what their wishes were because they "might not come true." But we still got a really good laugh seeing that the bone break into two equal pieces.

Our February Angel Food Order

This month's Angel Food Ministries order was larger than what we have ordered in previous months. We decided to by two regular boxes (instead of just one) in addition to our usual fruit/vegetable box order.

On Saturday, the kids and I went out to Whitley Church and picked up our order. I was so pleased and felt so overwhelmed. There just seemed to be so much! Had I been thinking, I would have taken a picture of my freezer after stuffing it with all the frozen goods. It was packed, literally, wall-to-wall food. My friend Crystal from work had ordered a regular box and a senior box, and she had a prior commitment the date of pick-up, so I agreed to get her order when I got mine. So that really took up all available space. I had to take some things out of the boxes and put them in the freezer door, recycling the box, just so I could get everything in.

So here's the two regular boxes. This is enough food to last our family for at least 2 weeks, probably more considering I can stretch the meat out since the kids don't eat but a couple bites each.

Our two-week supply order consisted of 2 of the following: doz. eggs, bean soup, carrots, stir fry vegetables, pork chops, crinkle cut fries, ribeye steaks, breaded chicken tenders, hot dogs, macaroni & cheese, bacon, shelf-stable milk (perfect to add to our food storage) butternut squash pie (really delicious and so close to pumpkin!), cereal, salisbury steak, split chicken breasts. All items for a total of $60 and will last our family for more than 2 weeks. Very hard to beat that! Since picking up our order, we have eaten the chicken tenders and crinkle cut fries and last night we ate the salisbury steak. Delicious!!

This month's fruit/vegetable box consisted of yellow onions, two pears, a box of raisins (they are always so plump & juicy!), potatoes, navel oranges, sweet potatoes (we've never been real fans of sweet potatoes but I have found them to be pretty tasty when added to a roast with root vegetables, or added to homemade potato soup), apples, carrots, cabbage (love me some cabbage & kielbasa!) and fresh, juicy pineapple. All for only $28 and it will last us all month. Yummy!!!

I Need a Girlfriend

During supper this evening, Daniel informed us that he needs a girlfriend. I have no idea what prompted him to say that. We had just started eating supper when Daniel looked at me and said it. My little man, who hasn't even turnd 5-years-old, thinks he needs a girlfriend! Aaahh!! So I remained as calm and cool as I could, and asked him if he knew anyone who could be his girlfriend. At that point, Raelee, who likes to be and do the same as her big brother, informed me that she needed a girlfriend. I told her that girls like her get boyfriends. Daniel then told me that Raelee could be his boyfriend. It was all I could to keep from laughing at that point. I told him that Raelee was his sister and could not be his boyfriend. I'm fairly confident that Daniel doesn't really know what a girlfriend or a boyfriend is. I just feel so flabbergasted and amused because the topic came up out of the blue!

Things to be Thankful for

Things that I a thankful for:

1) my husband--Joshua is thoughtful, kind, loving, and considerate. He takes care of me.
2) my children--Daniel is always full of hugs and kisses. Raelee is always helpful.
3) my testimony--I know where I came from, I know why I'm here, I know where I'm going.
4) my home--I have a roof over my head, electricity, water, food.
5) my pets--they tolerate the children well, they don't bite, don't chew up/claw the furniture.
6) my job--I'm still working and helping to support my family.

These are uncertain times, and I witness the hardships people are suffering every day working in a manufacturing facility as I do. I have a lot to be thankful and grateful for, and this is just a fraction of everything that's good in my life!

The Overpriced But For a Good Cause Dinner

Daniel's preschool held their 4th annual dinner/auction/fund raiser Monday evening at Lane Tree Country Club. Tickets cost us $45 dollars for two adult meals catered by Outback Steakhouse and 2 kids' cheese sandwiches (hence the word ovepriced in the title). Note that the kids' sandwiches was just a slice of cheese and bread, no mayonnaise.

We thought it was worth supporting the event anyhow and bought the tickets. Daniel enjoyed playing with his friends, seeing his teacher, and singing songs for all the parents.

Daniel pretends to run from his teacher, Mrs. Reiss. All the teachers were dressed like fairies with tulled skirts, colorful leggings, fairy wings.

Dancing to his own tune...There wasn't any music at the time; however, I caught Daniel dancing a jig next to the table. He even started break dancing and trying to spin on his back! Where did my boy pick up moves like that?!!

There was a person making balloon shapes. Raelee got a purple poodle that she absolutely loved! Daniel got a sword and proceeded to have a "sword fight" with his friend Maddox.

Daniel singing next to his friend Maddox and all the other preschoolers and kindergarteners. He did a really good job and did all the hand motions, singing his heart out. A far cry from a year ago when he would hold his hands over his ears and holler, "Quit singing!"

All the kids' artwork was displayed throughout the club. Here's Daniel's display. They had a "Starving Artist's Fund" and parents actually had to pay $10 to get their kids' artwork. Anything for a buck, I suppose!

Sleeping Beauty

The kids took a nice, long nap Sunday afternoon after church. I couldn't believe it! Usually, Daniel tries to get out of naps by saying he "doesn't need a nap anymore." He was the quite opposite this time and climbed right into bed without any complaint. After three or so hours passed by without hearing a single peep, I peeked inside the kids' bedroom to take a look. They were still fast asleep, looking so adorable! I managed to take a couple pictures without them moving so much as a finger. It was an unbelievable, adorable moment. I truly appreciate their willingness to take a nap and also that they took such a long nap! Moments like this are sometimes few and far between.
